The trend for drive-in entertainment has accelerated with a series of new pop-up dates for outside fun.

Pop Up Pictures is returning to the Norfolk Showground with a series of film showings, while The Drive In Experience – in partnership with Norwich venue Epic Studios – is staging a range of variety, music, and cinema events in Norwich and Thetford.

Films for the second round of Pop Up’s showground residency include Joker, Grease, Dirty Dancing, Silence of the Lambs, American Werewolf In London, and Saw, with Jungle Book, Cool Runnings, and Trolls World Tour among the more family-friendly flicks.

The shows will run over four days from July 30 to August 2, with an accompanying street food market featuring eight local traders.

They will also be back later that month with another two days of film and food – this time on foot rather than drive-in – on August 14 and 15, this time featuring films including Toy Story 4, Frozen 2, Greatest Showman, Rocky Horror Picture Show, Shaun of the Dead, and Nightmare on Elm Street.

Further picnic showings will take place at Abbey Gardens in Bury St Edmunds from August 20 to 22 (Lion King, Pretty Woman, and Rocketman), and at Nicholas Everitt Park, Oulton Broad (Goonies, Grease, and Yesterday) from September 3 to 5.

Tickets for all events are available via the Pop Up Pictures website.

Meanwhile The Drive In Experience is staging a long weekend of events at Taverham Hall near Norwich from August 13 to August 16, promising a giant LED outdoor movie screen.

The line up includes variety shows with Britain’s Got Talent contestant Ben Langley, films including the Lego Movie 2, Mary Poppins Returns, Scream, and Grease, and music from a range of tribute acts, with four slots per day.

They are also running a similar line up at Euston Park, Thetford from August 20 to August 23, with the added attraction of music from Gareth Gates, and a DJ set by Dave Pearce.

Their tour of venues will also visit Peterborough from August 6 to 9 and Northampton from August 27 to 30.
