Now a regular part of the Norfolk and Norwich Festival the Spiegeltent is a venerable touring venue, said to be a century old. Dr Teeth definitely gave the old girl a workout on Friday night.

From the off, the audience were on their feet and dancing to the tightly-formed eight piece as they ripped through a set that mixed trusty favourites with more surprising choices.

The participation didn’t end there, with vocal and enthusiastic call and response during songs like Let It Rain, Minnie the Moocher and King of the Swingers.

This was an all-ages show with a nicely diverse audience showing their clear appreciation of the music on offer during the two 45-minute sets; there were more than a couple of kids watching, slightly embarassed, as parents — and I’m sure grandparents — cut a rug alongside the youngsters.

Good to see the band enjoying themselves too with some fun mimes during Tequila, among others.

Altogether an appropriately uproarious start to this year’s festival, and a great example of the Spiegeltent as a lively dance venue.
